Context of the project

In collaboration with GFA, SHER Ingénieurs-Conseils carried out a mission to support the effective management of six protected areas through a financial contribution from KFW. This included the implementation of measures to protect biodiversity and improve the living conditions of the populations surrounding the protected areas, in order to contribute to the protection and sustainable use of forest resources in the DRC.

SHER provided a pair of engineers to draw up ten-year infrastructure master plans for the Lomami National Park (LNP) and the Kundelungu National Park (KNP) as part of PBF IV. These master plans are the result of an iterative process of consultation with the main stakeholders involved in the conservation of the two national parks of LNP and KNP. They are part of strategic plans, validated by ICCN, on anti-poaching activities, the community development in the peripheral zones of the protected areas and the development of income-generating activities such as eco-tourism. The final products are a map of projected infrastructures, standard construction plans, implementation guidelines, and a 10-year planning and budget.

In addition, SHER provided advice and carried out a monitoring mission of the renovation work of 128 km of farm track on the outskirts of LNP and Okapi Wildlife Reserve (OWR).
