Context of the project

The overall objective of the project is to contribute to the improvement of the integrated management of natural resources and to the sustainable restoration of natural ecosystems in the Sahel. This objective is part of the fight against desertification and the negative consequences of climate change, in order to strengthen the resilience of the Sahel's population.
The activities carried out by SHER Ingénieurs Conseils aim at achieving a sustainable and inclusive management and use of natural resources in the Dosso and Tahoua regions. The project is based on a participatory process encouraging interaction with cluster committees formed on the grounds of common and shared natural resources and aiming at protecting or restoring them.

The mission led to the following results:

  • Training stakeholders in the participatory planning process
  • Facilitation of 18 participatory diagnoses of the use of resources, space and the various soils (overview of the existing resources and the biophysical, human and socio-economic environments, identification of stakeholders, intervention zones, and conflict zones over the use of resources)
  • Feedback on the results of the workshop to the communities involved
  • Support to the participatory mapping process (micro-zoning) of the community living space to facilitate interaction between stakeholders

SHER, in partnership with I&D, provided two multidisciplinary teams of experts in natural resource management, socio-anthropology, agro-pastoralism, sustainable land management and computer information systems.
